The mission trip
Costs
The cost of your trip is $4,600 per person. We recommend bringing about $200 USD per person for your souvenirs and one-off meals (more if you are a big spender or going on an excursion). There are many ways you can raise funds, including a custom fundraising campaign with Arise Africa, a letter-writing campaign, or getting creative with odd jobs like dog sitting or a garage sale!
maybe you're wondering
What to bring
A much more extensive guide will be sent to you a couple of months before your trip, but here are the basics:
A valid passport (must have 6 months validity before expiration!)
One Carry-On
One Personal Large Luggage (Your other bag will be used by Arise to bring donations to Zambia)
Modest clothing for layering (it will be chillier than you think!)
A UK power converter
Here's some tips on
Getting there
VISA
When you arrive in Zambia, you will go through immigration and get a tourist visa. There is currently no cost for a visa.FLIGHTS
Arise Africa will schedule and book your airline ticket. We will be using Qatar Airways for your flights to and from your mission trip. Once we have booked your ticket, we will send you the confirmation with your booking reference number. At that time, you may pick your seat!LANDING IN LUSAKA
Customs lines are sometimes long. If you can, try to deplane quickly to enter customs line. If customs asks where you are staying, say Ibex Hill. There are free rolling carts to handle luggage. If customs asks what’s in your bag say “personal items”. There will be an Arise Africa staff member will be waiting for you when you leave the customs area.

IMMUNIZATIONS
Arise Africa requires all participants to have been vaccinated for the following:• MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
• DTap (Tetanus)
• Polio
• Hepatitis A&B
•Meningococcal (Meningitis)NOTE: Most Americans are vaccinated for the list above during childhoodArise Africa does not require you to have the COVID 19 Vaccine. For those who are unvaccinated, any PCR test needed during your travels will be done at the participants expense. The CDC guidelines update regularly, and so the information in this packet may not be fully updated. We recommend that you check the CDC page for Zambia (AND any country you may visit on excursions or if you extend your trip on your own) and talk to your doctor.MALARIA PILLS
We do not require anti-malaria medication.
Malaria is not very common in the areas you will be visiting. The majority of staff members from Arise Africa who travel multiple times a year do not take this medication.HIV/AIDS PREVENTION
Some of the kids and adults you will be working with are HIV and AIDS infected. According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, HIV is spread by sexual contact with an infected person, by sharing needles and/or syringes with someone who is infected, or, less commonly, through transfusions of infected blood or blood clotting factors. Contact with saliva, tears, or sweat has never been shown to result in the transmission of HIV.
